Sad News, Rotary Lost a Giant
If you haven't already heard through another channel, with saddened hearts we need to inform Rotary that Wendell Matzke passed away early Sunday morning.
We will provide an update as soon as we know more about a memorial service and times.
Wendell embodied the truest sense of Rotary and our 4 way test. He was a great example of humble and selfless service, and he made everyone feel welcome.  Please keep Reggie and their children in your thoughts and prayers.
If you weren't on the email chains, here are a few of the kind things said about Wendell:
  • His energy and commitment to service was amazing and sets an example for all the rest of us.  He will be missed in Rotary, at church, and within the community, and among his many friends and family. - Jan and Jon
  • Wendell embodied the Rotary spirit and lived out the 4 way test. He showed us what it looked like to give your best with humility, and joy.
I am blessed to have known him. - Jim
  • How can we forget that ever present smile, the boundless energy and the "can do" attitude that did so much for friends and community. - Arlan
  • What a wonderful, kind, caring but most of all, giving man!! - Ron
  • Wendell and Reggie taught many of all ages what it means to be focused on the betterment of your community.   He mentored our son in his eagle scout community service project years ago - as recipient of his time, generosity and spirit - we can speak first hand of learning how simple actions and time given can impact the lives of others. - Andy and Diane
  • We have all lost a friend in Rotary and a mentor who continually demonstrated to us the real meaning of "service above self. " - Larry
